Emotionally Attached

I got lots of great characteristics from my mother but in terms of practical ones, they totally skipped over me.  She's neat, I'm not.  She's patient, I want to throw my computer out of my office every morning when it takes 20 minutes to start.  She's good at keeping the clutter to a minimum, my middle name might need to be legally changed to clutter.  I dont hoard but I do get attached to things.  Examples:

  • I have every dress I wore for a shower, party, picture, etc. that was associated with our wedding still hanging in the closet.  Not to reveal too much, but those little suckers are about 2 sizes too small.  It's a wonder what stress does to you.
  • I have a couple of red scarves I wore when I worked for Target.  I might need those some day when I become an American Airlines flight attendant or decide that red looks good on me again.
  • I have about 20 different hair products in the bathroom each 75% full.  I use only one each day.
  • I had been complaining about the couches for 3.5 years but when the time came to actually give them away, I got sad.  Not because I had some memory or something but because I thought Mattie might miss hanging over the armrest.  (So in case you didn't catch that- now I'm projecting my attachment to inanimate objects onto the cat.)
Here's Mattie's enjoying the couch one more time.  I didn't get an armrest photo before we gave them away:

See he does look asleep sad right?  (Just work with me here)

And after some reassuring from Brent, we gave the couches away.  Since the new couch has much smaller arms, and we have a cat who falls on the higher end of the growth charts, the same "melty cat" position will not be happening.  I was concerned and played extra mousy with him that day (again- if you are a parent or psycho analyzing this post at all, yep- I still need a while till I have kids if I am worried about what the cat is feeling.  HE'S A CAT.)

Luckily, he adjusted quite quickly to his new surroundings.  He even sits on the very top of the chairs- I have yet to snag a pic but he really teeters depending on where his belly is.

I began to think that maybe I cater to the cat too much (gasp, ok so I do but at least I admit it)

  1. It looks as though Mattie has adjusted to the new chairs!
